(5MinNewsBreak.com) – In a shocker highlighting the giant unknowns about the outcome of the 2024 election, a new poll has revealed that 15% of likely voters in six pivotal swing states remain undecided between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming vote.
This significant portion of undecided voters could play a crucial role in determining the outcome, Newsmax stresses in a report.
The poll by CNN, conducted after last month’s Democratic National Convention, surveyed voters in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin—states that are key battlegrounds.
In these states, support varies, with Harris leading Trump 50% to 44% in Wisconsin and 48% to 43% in Michigan, while Trump holds a 49% to 44% advantage in Arizona.
The competition is particularly close in Georgia, where Harris has a slight edge at 48% to 47%, and in Pennsylvania, where both candidates are tied at 47%.
According to the CNN poll, Georgia and Pennsylvania are critical, with undecided voters in these states comprising 12% and 16%, respectively.
These figures highlight the potential volatility and significance of these states in the electoral process.
“President Joe Biden carried all six of these states in 2020, winning Georgia by just under 12,000 votes and Arizona by a little over 10,000 votes. Were Harris to hold Biden’s 2020 wins outside of these six states and carry Wisconsin and Michigan, a win in Pennsylvania plus a single electoral vote from anywhere else would give her the presidency,” CNN reported.
The scenario for Trump is also favorable if he can secure victories in specific states.
“Should Trump hold North Carolina — a state he carried in 2020 and that is widely considered a battleground in this year’s contest — wins in Georgia and Pennsylvania would put him over the top regardless of what happens in Wisconsin, Michigan, or Nevada. In that scenario, even Arizona, where he currently holds a narrow lead, would not be necessary for Trump to win another term as president,” the report elaborates.
Economic issues remain a top priority for voters, with 39% of likely voters across the surveyed states citing the economy as their primary concern.
Harris is currently trailing Trump in terms of voter trust to handle economic issues, although by narrower margins than those seen between Trump and Biden in earlier polls.
The CNN poll was conducted by SSRS from August 23-29, both online and via telephone, polling registered voters across the six states mentioned.
