(5MinNewsBreak.com) – In a development raising serious concerns about the food safety system nationwide, the past month has seen a surge in food recalls due to undeclared allergens and bacterial contamination.

In September, nearly a dozen food products were recalled after undeclared allergens and foodborne illnesses were discovered.

More alarmingly, food recalls have increased by 20% from 2020 to 2023, and experts predict the number of recalls in 2024 will match the total of 2023.

The broad list of recalled items includes foods such as 7-Eleven brownies, Lactaid milk, and eggs from Milo’s Poultry Farms.

The uptick in recalls is attributed to better reporting procedures and the intricate nature of the global food supply chain.

According to Darin Detwiler from Northeastern University, “the complexity of the modern food supply chain, with its reliance on global sourcing, increases the risk of contamination at various points from production to distribution.”

Specific recalls include Niitakaya Pickled Garlic for undeclared fish allergen and Milo’s Poultry Farms Eggs for potential salmonella contamination.

Another major recall was Hammond’s Candies Dark Chocolate, which contained undeclared milk allergens—posing a significant threat to individuals with severe allergies.

The 7-Eleven Fudge Brownies recall for undeclared walnuts highlights the negligence in the food manufacturing process.

Likewise, Lactaid Milk was found to contain potential almond contamination, another oversight that could have dire consequences for consumers with nut allergies.

Federal authorities emphasize the importance of not consuming recalled items to prevent potential health hazards.

The FDA advised, “Don’t eat the food or consume the drug: To ensure your safety, refrain from consuming any recalled food products. Always prioritize caution over convenience.”

This measure is part of a broader initiative to improve public health and safety amid the rising number of recalls.

“Don’t eat the food or consume the drug: To ensure your safety, refrain from consuming any recalled food products. Always prioritize caution over convenience,” the FDA has advised.
