(5MinNewsBreak.com) – Discussing the complex situation in the Middle East, Joe Biden has called the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria a “fundamental act of justice.”
Assad’s government collapsed after nearly 14 years of brutal civil war, marking a significant shift in the region’s power dynamics.
Biden has characterized the moment as a “historic opportunity” for Syrians, but some are concerned about the dangers posed by the power vacuum left by Assad.
Despite the Biden administration’s attempts to paint a rosy picture of the situation, the reality on the ground is far more concerning.
The offensive that toppled Assad was led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), an Islamist group with ties to al-Qaeda.
This raises serious questions about the future of Syria and the potential for it to become a breeding ground for terrorism.
Biden’s approach to the situation is further reflected in his statement that the rebel groups are “saying the right things now.”
His remarks willfully ignore the fact that these extremist organizations also put American interests and allies in the region at risk.
“Make no mistake, some of the rebel groups that took down Assad have their own grim record of terrorism and human rights abuses. But as they take on greater responsibility, we will assess not just their words, but their actions,” Biden said.
While Biden pledges to maintain a troop presence in Syria to prevent an ISIS resurgence, his administration has a history of taking a weak stance on terrorism.
Just like with the situation in Ukraine, Biden has pledged to provide humanitarian aid to Syria while neglecting the security needs of American citizens.
In contrast to Biden’s approach, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu offered a more realistic assessment of the situation, crediting Assad’s fall on Israel’s war against Iran and Hezbollah.
Netanyahu stated, “This is a historic day for the Middle East. The collapse of the Assad regime, the tyranny in Damascus, offers great opportunity but also is fraught with significant dangers.”
“This collapse is the direct result of our forceful action against Hezbollah and Iran, Assad’s main supporters. It set off a chain reaction of all those who want to free themselves from this tyranny and its oppression,” he continued.
