(5MinNewsBreak.com) – President-elect Donald Trump’s bold move to reshape the nation’s approach to government spending has thrown Washington into chaos.
“Republicans must GET SMART and TOUGH. If Democrats threaten to shut down the government unless we give them everything they want, then CALL THEIR BLUFF,” Trump said.
“It is [Senate Majority Leader Chuck] Schumer and [President Joe] Biden who are holding up aid to our farmers and disaster relief,” he added.
As a potential shutdown looms, Trump is demanding Republicans renegotiate a bloated spending bill.
Both Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance, has issued a stark warning to Republicans: reject the bipartisan government funding bill or face political consequences.
The bill in question, which would keep the government open until March 14, 2025, has been criticized by Trump and his allies for its excessive spending and failure to address key conservative priorities.
Trump and Vance did not mince words in their statement, urging Republicans to stand firm against Democrat demands.
The impact of Trump’s intervention was immediate. House Speaker Mike Johnson’s version of the bill was declared dead by House Majority Leader Steve Scalise.
Tech billionaire and Trump ally Elon Musk criticized the bill and called for a government shutdown until Trump’s inauguration.

While Democrats and their media allies attempt to paint this as obstructionism, Trump’s supporters see it as a necessary stand against business-as-usual in Washington.
The rejected package included $100.4 billion in disaster aid and funding for questionable projects like a potential new stadium for the Washington Commanders.
Trump and Vance’s statement also addressed the contentious issue of the debt ceiling by proposing a strategic approach.
“Increasing the debt ceiling is not great but we’d rather do it on Biden’s watch. If Democrats won’t cooperate on the debt ceiling now, what makes anyone think they would do it in June during our administration? Let’s have this debate now,” the duo stated.
“And we should pass a streamlined spending bill that doesn’t give Chuck Schumer and the Democrats everything they want,” they added.
By forcing this debate now, Trump is setting the stage for a more fiscally responsible government under his upcoming administration.
As the shutdown deadline approaches, alternatives are being considered, including a “clean” continuing resolution with or without disaster funding.
