(5MinNewsBreak.com) – Aligning the Sunshine State with President-elect Donald Trump’s tough stance, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is taking swift action to crack down on illegal immigration.
DeSantis has called for a special legislative session starting January 27, just days after Trump’s inauguration, to implement the new administration’s immigration agenda.
DeSantis is quickly preparing Florida to be at the forefront of enforcing stricter immigration laws.
“We don’t have time to waste,” the governor declared at a press conference. “The American people spoke very clearly.”
The special session seeks to empower officials to work hand-in-hand with federal authorities to achieve results.
DeSantis emphasized, “State and local officials in Florida must help the Trump administration enforce our nation’s immigration laws.”
This includes imposing additional duties on local officials and providing necessary funding to support these efforts.
One key proposal is to require Florida law enforcement to participate in federal immigration enforcement under Section 287(g) of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act.
This move will significantly enhance the state’s ability to identify and detain illegal immigrants, ensuring they face the consequences of breaking the laws.
“We are going to see a sea change in policies, particularly with respect to the border and illegal immigration,” DeSantis stated. “This is the time to get it right once and for all.”
The governor is also taking aim at incentives that attract illegal aliens to Florida.
He plans to repeal a law allowing in-state tuition for illegals, a move that will prioritize American citizens and legal residents.
“We need to remove all incentives to come to the state of Florida illegally, and that is one of them,” DeSantis firmly stated.
To ensure compliance with these new measures, DeSantis is not afraid to use his authority to hold officials accountable.
He warned that he has the power to suspend officials who neglect their duties in enforcing immigration laws, sending a clear message that Florida will not tolerate sanctuary cities or counties.
“There also needs to be measures to hold people accountable who are violating our anti-sanctuary policies,” DeSantis asserted.
While some Democratic leaders and immigration advocates criticize these measures as harsh, DeSantis remains resolute in his commitment to protecting Florida’s citizens and resources.
As Trump spokesperson Karoline Leavitt outlines, the governor’s actions align perfectly with the Trump administration’s upcoming plans.
“President Trump will enlist every federal power and coordinate with state authorities to institute the largest deportation operation of illegal criminals, drug dealers, and human traffickers in American history,” she stated.
As Florida leads the charge in implementing Trump’s immigration agenda, Americans can take heart that their voices are being heard.
With leaders like DeSantis working together with the incoming Trump administration, the tide is finally turning against illegal immigration.
