The Trump Department of Justice (DOJ) has dropped a bombshell on disgraced Andrew Cuomo, who now faces a criminal investigation.

The criminal probe into the former New York governor focuses on his congressional testimony about his pandemic nursing home policies.

The Trump administration investigation is examining whether Cuomo lied to Congress about his role in a directive that sent COVID-positive patients into nursing homes.

His decision potentially caused thousands of deaths among America’s most vulnerable citizens.

The Justice Department investigation began about a month ago and follows a criminal referral from House Oversight Committee Chairman Representative James Comer.

Comer specifically accused Cuomo of being “caught red-handed lying to Congress.”

The investigation specifically targets Cuomo’s testimony about his involvement in drafting a controversial nursing home report and his March 2020 directive that barred nursing homes from refusing COVID-19 patients.

The probe is being conducted by the U.S. attorney’s office in Washington, D.C., currently led by Jeanine Pirro.

Pirro has previously warned Cuomo that “you cannot escape the consequences of your intentional and reckless acts.”

Investigators are reportedly examining evidence that contradicts Cuomo’s congressional testimony.

These included emails and handwritten edits suggesting he was directly involved in drafting the nursing home policy report despite his claims to the contrary.

The timing of the investigation has raised eyebrows as Cuomo is currently running for New York City mayor.

Campaign spokesperson Rich Azzopardi called the probe “lawfare and election interference plain and simple.”

The investigation comes after the DOJ controversially dropped corruption charges against Cuomo’s mayoral opponent, Eric Adams, resulting in the resignation of top justice officials.

“These are all diversions to blame New York and other states for the culpability of the federal response, which was malpractice,” Cuomo stated.

For many families who lost loved ones in New York nursing homes during the pandemic, the investigation represents long-awaited accountability.

Advocacy groups like Voices for Seniors, which have been demanding justice for years, praised the announcement.

“The wheels of justice are finally beginning to turn. For over five years, our movement has been fueled by heartbreak and a single-minded demand for the truth,” the organization stated in response to the news.

House Republicans have maintained that Cuomo’s testimony directly conflicts with evidence showing his hands-on role in crafting nursing home policies.

The Biden-era DOJ initially declined to act on the criminal referral from Comer, but following President Donald Trump’s return to office, the investigation was greenlit.

Families of nursing home victims have expressed relief at the investigation.

Coices for Seniors co-founder Vivian Zayas, whose mother died in a New York nursing home during the pandemic, responded to the news, saying, “Thank God our fight has not been in vain.”

The We Care Memorial Wall, another advocacy group representing families of the deceased, has similarly supported the investigation into Cuomo’s actions and testimony.

Cuomo, who continues to defend his pandemic decision-making, insists he “testified truthfully to the best of his recollection about events from four years earlier.”

His spokesperson emphasized that Cuomo offered to address any follow-up questions from the Congressional Subcommittee.

Meanwhile, the Department of Justice has declined to comment on the ongoing investigation.
