(5MinNewsBreak.com) – Google is advising users to update their Chrome browser to the latest version after once again exposing them to dangerous security vulnerabilities.

The search giant’s latest update reveals four “high-severity” flaws that could allow hackers and foreign agents to steal personal data from millions of Americans.

India’s Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) sounded the alarm for desktop users about multiple security holes in Google Chrome.

These vulnerabilities affect Windows, Mac and Linux systems and could allow cybercriminals to execute malicious code, crash browsers and steal sensitive information from unsuspecting victims.

The Indian agency warned that these flaws are rated “HIGH” in severity, emphasizing that users need to update their browsers immediately.

One of the critical vulnerabilities discovered is CVE-2024-12381, a “Type Confusion” issue in Chrome’s V8 JavaScript engine.

Another one is CVE-2024-12382, a “Use After Free” problem in the browser’s translation feature.

To exploit these vulnerabilities, all a hacker needs to do is lure users to a malicious webpage. Once there, they can execute code, crash the browser or steal valuable data.

Google claims to have released updates addressing these vulnerabilities, with new versions 131.0.6778.139/.140 for Windows and macOS and 131.0.6778.139 for Linux.

Google is urging users to update Chrome immediately to prevent potential exploits.

Additionally, Google reportedly paid out $75,000 in “bug bounties” to the researchers who discovered these flaws.

To update Chrome, users must navigate to the “Help|About” section in the Chrome menu and restart their browser.
