In stark contrast to the current administration’s treatment by the press, last year’s dinner featured Joe Biden making direct attacks on President Trump.
Biden said:
“We live in an unprecedented moment in democracy. An unprecedented moment for history. Democracy and freedom are literally under attack. Putin’s on the march in Europe. My predecessor bows down to him and says to him, ‘do whatever the hell you want.'”
The media’s break with tradition comes amid restrictions on certain outlets that have consistently misrepresented the Trump administration’s positions.
While the press corps complains about access, many Trump supporters view these measures as necessary steps to ensure fair coverage from an industry that has repeatedly proven itself hostile to conservatives.
