(5MinNewsBreak.com) – Adding to the growing list of victims in this gruesome case, Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann now faces charges for a seventh murder.
Suffolk County prosecutors have charged Heuermann with the murder of Valerie Mack, whose partial remains were discovered in 2000 and 2011.
This charge comes on top of six other murder charges, painting a chilling picture of a serial killer who terrorized Long Island for over a decade.
The investigation into the Gilgo Beach killings began in 2010 when authorities discovered ten sets of human remains, sparking fears of a serial killer on the loose.
For years, the case remained unsolved, leaving families devastated and a community on edge.
Heuermann, an architect from Massapequa Park, was arrested in July 2023 and has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Despite his claims of innocence, prosecutors have built a case using DNA evidence, electronic records and other forensic techniques.
“The lives of these women matter. We, as investigators, understand that. No one understands that more than the families,” said Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney.
Disturbingly, many of the victims were sex workers who reportedly met Heuermann through advertisements.
Investigators found a document they believe Heuermann used to plan his kills, listing items and locations related to Mack’s murder.
They also discovered news clippings about the Gilgo Beach killings in his home, suggesting he kept them as twisted trophies of his crimes.
Perhaps most chilling is the evidence suggesting Heuermann’s home was the scene of the murders when his family was away.
As the investigation continues, an “army” of investigators is working on numerous cold cases in the area, exploring potential links between Heuermann and other unsolved murders.
