He’s Coming Back On TV?

(5MinNewsBreak.com) – Two years after getting booted from CNN and having his show “Reliable Sources” canceled during a rocky period at the network, Brian Stelter is making a comeback.

Stelter revealed in CNN’s Reliable Sources media newsletter that he will be rejoining the network as the author of the newsletter he originally started.

“I’m returning to @CNN in a brand new role as Chief Media Analyst. I’ll be appearing on TV, developing digital content, and once again helming the Reliable Sources newsletter,” Stelter shared on X.

Stelter’s return comes after CNN’s former media reporter Oliver Darcy left the network.

Darcy had been writing for Reliable Sources until he left last month to start his own media-focused tip sheet.

After being fired from CNN, Stelter engaged in several ventures, including a fellowship at Harvard’s Kennedy School and a role as a special correspondent for Vanity Fair.

He maintained a presence in the media, contributing to various outlets and making occasional TV appearances, including as a political commentator on the BBC.

During his previous tenure at CNN, Stelter hosted Reliable Sources for nearly a decade, becoming well-recognized as a left-leaning figure on the network.

His outspoken style and coverage choices, such as his support for the now-discredited Steele dossier and his coverage of the Hunter Biden laptop story, often attracted criticism, particularly from conservative circles.

More recently, Stelter has been slammed for dismissing the mainstream media’s oversight of Joe Biden’s cognitive abilities ahead of a lackluster debate performance against GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump.

Stelter also faced scrutiny for being soft with interviewing Biden administration officials.

He also received backlash for defending former CNN colleague Chris Cuomo during Cuomo’s controversy involving his brother, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Former CNN head Chris Licht made the decision to fire Stelter. Licht was attempting to steer the network towards a more centrist and less partisan approach, an effort that ultimately did not pan out.

Before joining CNN, Stelter was a media reporter at the New York Times immediately after college and has authored two books focused on the relationship between Trump and Fox News.

Reflecting on his career and changes at the network, Stelter said, “The media industry has matured, CNN has evolved, and I have changed a lot since I signed off two years ago.”
