(5MinNewsBreak.com) – Exposing yet another potential hazard for American drivers, Hyundai is recalling over 42,000 vehicles due to a possibly deadly defect.
Specifically, the recall impacts the South Korean automaker’s 2025 Santa Cruz and Tucson models, which could unexpectedly roll away and put lives at risk.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) revealed that a wiring defect in these Hyundai models could cause them to shift out of “park” without pressing the brake pedal.
The NHTSA’s statement reads: “Owners are advised to use the parking brake when parking the vehicle.”
This dangerous flaw affects more than 35,500 Tucson and 6,900 Santa Cruz vehicles in the United States, potentially endangering drivers, passengers and pedestrians.
The recall includes the Santa Cruz, a pickup truck and SUV hybrid, and the Tucson, an SUV, both with starting prices over $28,000.
These supposedly “advanced” vehicles now join the growing list of foreign-made cars that have failed to meet basic safety standards, further destroying consumer trust in overseas manufacturers.
Hyundai is also recalling over 145,000 electric Genesis and IONIQ vehicles due to potential damage to the integrated charging control units (ICCU).
Hyundai claims that no injuries, deaths, crashes or fires have been associated with the defect so far.
However, the issue was only discovered in late October when a Tucson was reported moving by itself.
While Hyundai promises to fix the issue at no cost to owners, the inconvenience and potential danger posed to American drivers cannot be understated.
As the Biden-Harris administration prioritized electric vehicles, this recall also exposes the potential risks linked to rushed new technologies without proper safeguards.
The affected IONIQ 6 (2023-2025) and Genesis GV60 (2023-2025) models show that even the most advanced electric vehicles cannot escape dangerous defects.
