On Monday, shortly after the noon hour, the seismic event occurred within the vicinity of Los Angeles, as confirmed by the US Geological Survey.

The tremor was distinctly felt throughout the region, manifesting in the shaking of a medical structure and causing household items such as glasses and dishes to rattle extensively, CNBC reports.

In response to these vibrations, the Los Angeles Fire Department conducted a thorough evaluation of the city’s infrastructure, yet initially reported no structural damage or casualties.

Further to this, the National Weather Service reassured the public, confirming that the earthquake did not pose a tsunami risk.

The effects of the earthquake extended beyond Los Angeles, reaching as far south as San Diego and as far east as the desert region of Palm Springs, according to data gathered from the USGS community reporting page.

Additionally, a modest amount of feedback originated from the southern portion of the San Joaquin Valley, situated approximately 100 miles northwest of Los Angeles.

In light of the event, Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger reflected on her experiences with significant seismic activity, specifically referencing the 1994 Northridge earthquake, which was of magnitude 6.7.

“Having lived through the Northridge earthquake (magnitude 6.7 in 1994), today’s tremor made me flash back to what we know are lifesaving rules during an earthquake: drop, cover, and hold on. It was also a reminder to us all that we live in earthquake country and we need to be prepared,” she stated.

This recent quake occurred less than a week following another seismic occurrence in Southern California—a temblor that measured a magnitude of 5.2.

Similar to the latest event, it was also profoundly felt across Los Angeles but, fortunately, did not result in any injuries or significant damage.

The epicenter of Monday’s earthquake was pinpointed near Highland Park, a northeastern neighborhood of Los Angeles, with a depth of approximately 7.5 miles (12.1 kilometers) beneath the surface.

Coinciding with the commencement of the academic year for the Los Angeles Unified School District, the quake prompted at least one secondary education institution, John Marshall High School in Los Feliz, to evacuate its facilities.

The school subsequently informed parents that, upon inspection, no immediate damage was observed.
