(5MinNewsBreak.com) – Potentially ending the first invasion of its territory since World War II, Russia has successfully regained control of Sudzha in the Kursk region after defeating Ukrainian forces.
Moscow’s military victory reverses Ukraine’s territorial gains made during their surprising August incursion.
Russian forces launched a decisive assault on Sudzha, the main town in the Kursk region that Ukrainian troops had previously captured.
Lieutenant General Apti Alaudinov confirmed the Russian military’s strategic advantage in the operation. “We have surrounded Sudzha from almost all sides,” Alaudinov said.
The Russian military’s unexpected tactics proved crucial in retaking the town. Special forces infiltrated through a gas pipeline to strike Ukrainian units from behind.
Ukraine’s General Staff confirmed Russia’s use of the pipeline and reported significant losses among their troops in Sudzha.
Russian Defense Ministry officials claim to have captured several villages near the town, while Ukraine has remained silent about these territorial losses.
The defeat marks a significant setback for Ukrainian forces, which had launched what they called the largest attack on Russian territory since WWII in August.
Their cross-border incursion initially captured approximately 1,000 square kilometers and took hundreds of Russian prisoners of war.
However, these gains are now being systematically erased by Russian counteroffensives.
Ukrainian soldiers still clinging to positions in the Kursk region now face overwhelming odds against more than 50,000 Russian troops, reportedly including North Korean forces.
This coalition has mounted relentless assaults that have proven too much for the Ukrainian military to withstand without additional Western support.
The battle for Sudzha holds particular strategic importance due to the town’s major gas facilities and its role as a key supply hub.
President Donald Trump’s assessment that Ukraine “may not survive” without American support appears increasingly true as Russian forces continue to reclaim territory.
Meanwhile, France has announced additional military aid to Ukraine, funded by profits from frozen Russian assets.
Despite such Western efforts, Russia’s tactical successes on the ground are seemingly reshaping the conflict’s trajectory in Moscow’s favor.
As Russian forces consolidate their gains around Sudzha, military analysts suggest this victory could mark a turning point in the broader conflict.
The territorial gains could also demonstrate that Ukraine’s cross-border gambit has ultimately strengthened Russia’s resolve and military position rather than weakening it.
