NEW: Pence Abandons Trump

( – Doubling down on his Never Trump stance following a rocky end to their work relationship, former Vice President Mike Pence disclosed that he will not endorse former President Donald Trump’s bid for the presidency in 2024.

“It should come as no surprise that I will not be endorsing Donald Trump this year,” Pence told host Martha McCallum during an interview on Fox News’ “The Story with Martha McCallum.”

There, Pence reflected on his and Trump’s administration’s accomplishments and praised their tenure for bolstering prosperity, security and conservative values in the judiciary and foreign policy.

However, he highlighted his departure from Trump on issues such as the Capitol riot on January 6, China and abortion, which ultimately prevented him from supporting Trump’s campaign.

Pence, who also made a bid for the GOP nomination, mentioned his campaign’s focus on these differences and stated he was unmistakably unable to back Trump due to these substantial policy disagreements.

“In each of these cases, Donald Trump is pursuing and articulating an agenda that is at odds with the conservative agenda we governed on during our four years. And that is why I cannot in good conscience endorse Donald Trump in this campaign,” he stated.

Without specifying his voting intentions for the upcoming election, Pence clearly ruled out voting for Joe Biden.

During his path to clinching the GOP nomination, Trump received endorsements from other primary contenders who exited the race early, including Ron DeSantis, Tim Scott, and Vivek Ramaswamy. This contrasts with Nikki Haley, who refused to endorse Trump after his astounding Super Tuesday win.

The rift between Pence and Trump notably widened following the 2020 election, while Pence’s resolute stance on January 6 negatively affected his popularity among Republicans, a fact he acknowledged during his campaign.

In an attempt to redefine conservatism away from the populism championed by Trump, Pence has launched the “American Solutions Project” through Advancing American Freedom. The project aims to promote a conservatism based on limited government as opposed to populist or progressive narratives.

Additionally Pence’s stance diverges from Trump’s on the issue of TikTok’s ownership legislation. Pence supports the bipartisan bill for national security reasons as opposed to Trump who criticizes the bill for potentially favoring Facebook.
