(5MinNewsBreak.com) – A vocal Trump critic has betrayed his country and put the FBI in hot water after being caught red-handed leaking classified information.
15-year FBI veteran Johnathan Buma was arrested while attempting to flee the country after sharing confidential documents to write an unauthorized book exposing alleged agency bias.
Buma was caught while preparing to board an international flight at New York’s JFK Airport.
The agent faces charges for the unauthorized disclosure of classified information after allegedly printing around 130 confidential FBI files for use in his book project.
The documents contained sensitive information about the FBI’s investigations into a foreign country’s weapons of mass destruction program.
This case is particularly interesting because Buma had positioned himself as a critic of the FBI and the first Trump administration.
He filed a whistleblower complaint in January 2022, claiming intelligence suppression and alleging retaliation for raising concerns.
This same agent who accused others of misconduct now faces serious charges for mishandling classified information himself.
Court documents revealed the extent of Buma’s alleged security violations:
“The book draft contained information that BUMA obtained through his position as an FBI Special Agent that relates to the FBI’s efforts and investigations into a foreign country’s weapons of mass destruction (‘WMD’) program.”
Besides just printing classified files, Buma reportedly shared excerpts containing confidential information on social media platforms.

The investigation into his activities began during the Biden administration, with a raid on his home conducted in late 2023.
Despite claiming to be a whistleblower concerned about agency misconduct, Buma’s actions suggest someone willing to compromise national security for personal gain.
Buma’s complaints about the FBI appear selectively partisan. He claimed to have been “shut down” when raising concerns about Rudy Giuliani’s potential compromise in an alleged Russian operation.
Yet, he noted FBI leadership was “very interested” when he discussed Hunter Biden’s dealings with Ukrainian energy company Burisma.
This suggests his whistleblowing may have been politically motivated rather than driven by genuine security concerns.
Following his arrest, Buma was released on a $100,000 bond after being charged with one misdemeanor count of disclosing confidential information.
The criminal complaint was filed in the Central District of California, signaling federal prosecutors are treating the case with appropriate seriousness.
Buma claimed to be “at my wits’ end” over what he described as “numerous acts of intelligence suppression” within the FBI.
His attorney, Scott Horton, has denied any wrongdoing and claimed no classified information was found during the raid on Buma’s home.
However, the evidence suggests otherwise. Documents show that Buma shared the sensitive materials with what he referred to as “partners” for his book project.
The apparent hypocrisy is striking – an agent who criticized the handling of classified information is now accused of mishandling it himself.
