Trump Cuts $400 Million – University Shocked!

Stacks of various U.S. dollar bills.

(5MinNewsBreak.com) – Due to the rampant anti-semitism crusade extreme leftists launched on campus, President Donald Trump decided to slash $400 million in federal funding from Columbia University.

This bold move signals that American taxpayers will no longer subsidize institutions that fail to protect Jewish students.

Liberal groups are already crying foul, but millions of Americans nationwide are applauding the decisive action.

The U.S. General Services Administration and the Departments of Justice, Health and Human Services, and Education jointly announced the funding cuts as part of the administration’s no-nonsense approach to combating anti-semitism in higher education.

Columbia University, an Ivy League institution with billions in federal grant commitments, has been at the center of pro-Palestinian protests that have created an increasingly hostile environment for Jewish students.

“Cancelling these taxpayer funds is our strongest signal yet that the federal government is not going to be party to an educational institution like Columbia that does not protect Jewish students and staff,” said Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Senior Counsel Leo Terrell.

“Freezing the funds is one of the tools we are using to respond to this spike in anti-Semitism. This is only the beginning,” he added.

The funding cuts represent just the first wave of action against Columbia, with additional cancellations expected to follow.

Education Secretary Linda McMahon delivered a clear message to university administrators nationwide who have allowed anti-semitism to flourish on their campuses while accepting billions in taxpayer dollars.

The Secretary said, “Since October 7, Jewish students have faced relentless violence, intimidation, and anti-Semitic harassment on their campuses – only to be ignored by those who are supposed to protect them.”.

“Universities must comply with all federal antidiscrimination laws if they are going to receive federal funding,” McMahon stated firmly.

“For too long, Columbia has abandoned that obligation to Jewish students studying on its campus. Today, we demonstrate to Columbia and other universities that we will not tolerate their appalling inaction any longer,” she added.

Federal agencies will issue stop-work orders on Columbia’s grants and contracts, effectively freezing the university’s access to these funds.

The institution holds more than $5 billion in federal grant commitments, primarily supporting healthcare and scientific research.

While the administration has not specified which grants and contracts are affected, the message is unmistakable: protect all students or lose taxpayer funding.

Predictably, left-wing civil liberties groups have already begun characterizing the funding cuts as an attack on free speech.

The New York Civil Liberties Union claims the cuts misuse Title VI of the Civil Rights Act to punish political speech.

Columbia’s administration has scrambled to respond via spokesperson Samantha Slater.

She stated, “We take Columbia’s legal obligations seriously and understand how serious this announcement is and are committed to combating anti-semitism.”

The decision comes after months of increasingly aggressive anti-Israel demonstrations on Columbia’s campus, where protesters demanded divestment from companies supporting Israel.

President Trump has previously condemned these protests, promising that “agitators will be imprisoned/or permanently sent back to the country from which they came. American students will be permanently expelled or, depending on the crime, arrested.”

The message from the Trump administration is crystal clear: American taxpayers will no longer fund institutions that turn a blind eye to anti-semitism.

Universities must either enforce equal protection for all students or prepare to lose billions in federal support.
