President Donald Trump is set to clash with Big Pharma over his outstanding efforts to protect defenseless Americans.
Specifically, the president announced a bold executive order to slash drug prices by up to 80%, forcing pharmaceutical giants to give U.S. citizens the same deals they offer foreign countries.
Big Pharma has profited for decades by charging Americans 5-10 times more than patients abroad for identical medications.
However, President Trump’s “Most Favored Nation” policy will end this extortion of the American people.
The president announced his plans on Truth Social, declaring that Americans will no longer be the “suckers” paying inflated prices while other countries enjoy bargain rates.
The executive order specifically targets expensive medications administered in doctors’ offices, including critical cancer treatments and other specialty injectables that often carry astronomical price tags.
President Trump stated:
“For many years the World has wondered why Prescription Drugs and Pharmaceuticals in the United States States of America were SO MUCH HIGHER IN PRICE THAN THEY WERE IN ANY OTHER NATION, SOMETIMES BEING FIVE TO TEN TIMES MORE EXPENSIVE THAN THE SAME DRUG, MANUFACTURED IN THE EXACT SAME LABORATORY OR PLANT, BY THE SAME COMPANY???
“The Pharmaceutical/Drug Companies would say, for years, that it was Research and Development Costs, and that all of these costs were, and would be, for no reason whatsoever, borne by the ‘suckers’ of America, ALONE. Campaign Contributions can do wonders, but not with me, and not with the Republican Party.”

The president’s order builds on his previous efforts to standardize Medicare payments for prescription drugs, which could lower costs by up to 60%.
It also specifically targets insulin prices for low-income and uninsured Americans, while reducing costs for injectable epinephrine, which are medications that millions of families depend on.
President Trump’s executive action directly counters the Biden administration’s failure to address skyrocketing medication costs.
Under Joe Biden’s watch, prescription drug prices surged 15% from January 2022 to January 2023 alone, with nearly half of all price increases exceeding inflation rates.
Biden even abandoned President Trump’s original “Most Favored Nation” proposal in 2022, citing “stakeholder concerns.”
Pharmaceutical industry giants are already mobilizing against President Trump’s plan, claiming it will harm innovation.
The reality is that these companies have enjoyed record profits while ordinary Americans struggle to afford life-saving medications.
The president’s order primarily targets Medicare Part B drugs, but also facilitates state importation programs to reduce costs across the board.
It further directs the Department of Health and Human Services to seek public input on the Medicare Drug Price Negotiation Program, signaling President Trump’s commitment to widespread pharmaceutical reform.
While drug companies and their lobbyists will undoubtedly fight this order in court, as they did during President Trump’s first term, the president remains committed to protecting American patients over industry profits.
Previous legal challenges centered around procedural issues, not the core policy itself, giving the Trump administration confidence that this improved version will survive judicial scrutiny.
