(5MinNewsBreak.com) – In a bold move to secure America’s borders, GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump has unveiled a game-changing strategy to fight illegal immigration.
Trump’s plan promises to impose a 25% tariff on Mexican imports to put America first and force Mexico to take responsibility for the crisis at our southern border.
Announced during a rousing speech in North Carolina, Trump’s proposal seeks to use America’s economic might to encourage Mexico to address the flow of illegals and drugs into the country.
The Republican nominee pulled no punches when addressing Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, making it clear that immediate action is required.
“We’re being invaded by Mexico. But now we have a new president of Mexico. Supposed to — a very nice woman, they say. I haven’t met her,” Trump started.
“And I’m going to inform her on day one or sooner that if they don’t stop this onslaught of criminals and drugs coming into our country, I’m going to immediately impose a 25% tariff on everything they send into the United States of America,” Trump declared.
Trump’s plan does not stop at 25%. He made it clear that if Mexico fails to cooperate, he is prepared to escalate the tariffs even further.
“You’re the first ones I’ve told that to. Congratulations, North Carolina. And it’s only got a 100% chance of working because if it doesn’t work, I’ll make it a 50% tariff. And if that doesn’t work, I’ll make it 75%,” Trump explained.
In turn, leftist economists claim that American consumers would see potential price increases, but they fail to acknowledge the long-term benefits of Trump’s strategy.
This plan protects American jobs and communities by encouraging domestic production and forcing Mexico to take responsibility for its role in the border crisis.
“I had a great relationship with the President of Mexico (López Obrador). He’s retired now. He was a good man—a socialist, but you can’t have everything, right?” Trump added.
Trump’s approach has proven effective in the past. Similar threats forced Mexico to increase border security efforts during his first term.
Democrats have already criticized Trump’s plan. Kamala Harris, who failed in her role as border czar, has labeled the proposed tariffs a “national sales tax.”
