At a recent rally at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest in Arizona, Trump discussed the Panama Canal situation.
He criticized the sky-high fees charged to U.S. ships, calling them “ridiculous” and “highly unfair.”
Trump threatened to “demand that the Panama Canal be returned to us, in full, and without question” if fees were not reduced, showing his commitment to putting America first.
Trump’s concerns extend beyond financial considerations. He emphasized the canal’s strategic importance, calling it a “vital national asset” for the United States.
The president-elect’s comments come at a time of increasing concern about China’s growing global influence.
Trump specifically addressed this issue, stating, “It was solely for Panama to manage, not China, or anyone else. We would and will NEVER let it fall into the wrong hands!”
At the rally, Trump promised a booming economy, secure borders and resolutions to conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine.
“I can proudly proclaim that the Golden Age of America is upon us. There’s a spirit that we have now that we didn’t have just a short while ago,” Trump declared.
The U.S. completed the Panama Canal in 1914 and gave it up in 1999. Many view its transfer to Panama as a mistake that has weakened America’s global position.
As expected, Panama’s leadership has rejected Trump’s suggestion and emphasized their sovereignty over the canal.
However, this pushback only strengthens the resolve of Trump supporters, who see it as further evidence of the need for strong American leadership on the world stage.
