Specifically, President-elect Donald Trump slammed “illegal, psychotic” Judge Juan Merchan for refusing to dismiss charges in the politically motivated hush money against him.
Trump pulled no punches in his response to the ruling. He took to his Truth Social platform to express his outrage at the direct assault on the Constitution and the office of the presidency.
“BREAKING: In a completely illegal, psychotic order, the deeply conflicted, corrupt, biased, and incompetent Acting Justice Juan Merchan has completely disrespected the United States Supreme Court, and its Historic Decision on Immunity,” Trump declared.
“But even without Immunity, this illegitimate case is nothing but a Rigged Hoax. Merchan, who is a radical partisan, wrote an opinion that is knowingly unlawful, goes against our Constitution, and, if allowed to stand, would be the end of the Presidency as we know it,” he added.
The case in question stems from a $130,000 payment made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign.
Although the Supreme Court recently ruled on presidential immunity, Merchan has stubbornly clung to the notion that Trump’s actions were somehow outside the scope of his official duties as president.
This blatant disregard for the highest court in the land sets a dangerous precedent, potentially stripping future presidents of their constitutional protections.
Trump’s legal team rightly argued that the Supreme Court’s ruling on presidential immunity should apply, but Merchan remained biased by ignoring this crucial legal principle.
Trump communications director Steven Cheung stated, “Today’s decision by deeply conflicted, acting Justice Merchan in the Manhattan DA Witch Hunt is a direct violation of the Supreme Court’s decision on immunity, and other longstanding jurisprudence.”
It is worth noting that Merchan’s impartiality has been called into question before.
The judge has a history of small donations to Democrat causes and his daughter has worked with Democrat clients, which raises serious concerns about potential conflicts of interest.
