(5MinNewsBreak.com) – ABC News and George Stephanopoulos have been dealt a crushing blow as they are now forced to pay President-elect Donald Trump a $15 million settlement.
In a stunning rebuke to the mainstream media’s constant attacks on Trump, the news giant and chief anchor Stephanopoulos have agreed to shell out millions to settle the defamation lawsuit.
The lawsuit stemmed from Stephanopoulos’s false claim that Trump was found “liable for rape” during a broadcast on March 10, 2024.
The settlement, filed in the Southern District of Florida Federal Court, includes a $15 million contribution to a Presidential foundation and museum that Trump will establish.
Additionally, ABC News and Stephanopoulos will pay $1 million to cover Trump’s legal fees, bringing the total payout to a whopping $16 million.
This legal victory for Trump exposes the depths to which the liberal media will sink to tarnish his reputation.
Stephanopoulos, a former Clinton administration operative, falsely claimed multiple times during the broadcast that Trump was found liable for rape.
However, a jury had only found Trump liable for “sexual abuse” but not rape in the E. Jean Carroll case.
As part of the settlement, ABC News will publish a statement expressing regret for Stephanopoulos’s false and disparaging remarks.
An editor’s note will also be added to the online article from March 10, 2024, clarifying the misleading statements.
The settlement avoided a trial, with depositions scheduled before a December 24 deadline for a motion for summary judgment.
It is worth noting that Trump has also filed lawsuits against other liberal media outlets, including CBS, CNN, the New York Times and the Washington Post.
Although some of the cases have been dismissed, others like the one against ABC have resulted in significant victories.
Stephanopoulos had previously responded to Trump’s lawsuit by saying, “Trump sued me because I used the word ‘rape,’ even though a judge said that’s in fact what did happen. We filed a motion to dismiss.”
