(5MinNewsBreak.com) – President Donald Trump’s bold move to restore military readiness has finally begun: his latest executive order reinstates a transgender ban on the military.
The order prompted Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to issue a directive halting transgender recruitment and pausing gender transition procedures for active service members.
This decisive action aims to strengthen the armed forces and protect common-sense values within the military.
Filed with the U.S. District Court in Washington, Hegseth’s memorandum takes immediate effect.
The directive states, “Effective immediately, all new accessions for individuals with a history of gender dysphoria are paused.”
“All unscheduled, scheduled or planned medical procedures associated with affirming or facilitating a gender transition for service members are paused,” it continues.
This policy shift reverses the Obama-era stance allowing transgender individuals to serve openly and receive gender-affirming care.
It also undoes one of Joe Biden’s first actions in office, which had rescinded President Trump’s 2017 ban on transgender troops.
The Trump administration emphasizes that this move is not a blanket ban on transgender individuals but rather an update to medical standards and a restriction on the use of pronouns that do not reflect an individual’s biological sex.
The order also prohibits men and women from using facilities designated for the opposite sex, reinforcing traditional gender norms within military settings.
“Consistent with the military mission and longstanding DoD policy, expressing a false ‘gender identity’ divergent from an individual’s sex cannot satisfy the rigorous standards necessary for military service,” President Trump’s order reads.
Critics argue that this policy change could impact up to 15,000 service members, according to estimates from the Human Rights Campaign.
However, the Pentagon’s own figures suggest a much lower number, ranging from 1,000 to 8,000 transgender-identifying individuals in the military.
Supporters of the policy change argue that it will enhance military readiness and cohesion.
Secretary Hegseth stated that identity-based divisions weaken military forces and emphasized the need for a unified and focused fighting force.
Despite potential legal challenges from LGBTQ+ advocacy groups, the Trump administration remains committed to implementing these changes.
A hearing to address concerns raised by civil rights organizations is scheduled for February 18 in the D.C. district court.
As the policy takes effect, the Pentagon has 30 days to determine specific guidelines for service members based on readiness requirements.
The Trump administration’s decisive action reaffirms its commitment to maintaining a strong, focused military free from social experiments that could compromise its effectiveness and readiness to defend the nation.
