(5MinNewsBreak.com) – In an alarming revelation, China has just confirmed that its plans for a global takeover are not purely military but also technological.
Specifically, the White House uncovered a massive Chinese hacking operation targeting at least eight U.S. telecom firms.
This vicious attack has compromised the private communications of countless Americans, including high-profile political figures and government officials.
The scale of this cyber intrusion is staggering. Deputy National Security Adviser Anne Neuberger disclosed that the Chinese government-backed hackers gained access to text messages and phone conversations of American officials and influential political figures.
This breach has not only threatened individual privacy but also raised serious national security concerns.
Perhaps most alarmingly, the hacking campaign specifically targeted phones associated with President-elect Donald Trump and Kamala Harris’ associates.
The Chinese embassy in Washington has predictably denied any involvement in these cyberattacks.
Chinese embassy spokesperson Liu Pengyu had the audacity to claim, “The U.S. needs to stop its own cyberattacks against other countries and refrain from using cyber security to smear and slander China.”
In the aftermath of the attack, Deputy National Security Adviser Anne Neuberger claimed, “We don’t believe any classified communications has been compromised.”
Although it is reassuring that no classified information appears to have been breached, this incident serves as a reminder of America’s vulnerabilities in the digital age.
The Biden administration claims to be taking this threat seriously. Neuberger stated that Joe Biden “has made it a priority for the federal government to do everything it can to get to the bottom this.”
This latest cyber assault, codenamed “Salt Typhoon,” is believed to have begun one to two years ago.
The fact that it went undetected for so long is a damning indictment of America’s current cybersecurity measures.
Even more concerning, U.S. officials admit that Chinese actors have not been fully removed from the compromised networks, leaving citizens exposed to ongoing risks.
In the meantime, the FBI and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency have issued guidance to address the issue.
