During an extensive interview on “Fox and Friends,” Trump cited a Fox News poll from August 14, indicating a significant increase in his support among black voters—from 12% in the 2020 election to a projected 26% in 2024.
In the interview, co-host Lawrence Jones showcased a video from his visit to a Chicago barbershop where he engaged with voters on various political issues, which prompted Trump’s comments.
Trump expressed admiration for the individuals featured in the video, emphasizing their desire for safety and a functioning society.
“I like that guy, and I like those people and I watched yesterday as you did it. You are doing fantastically, by the way. I watched yesterday as you did the interviews,” Trump commented.
He praised the community’s strength and work ethic, noting, “Those are great people. Those are people who just want safety. They don’t want much, he wants to run his barbershop.”
The former president also humorously contemplated getting a haircut there himself, appreciating the quality of their work.
Trump criticized the political leadership in Chicago, specifically mentioning the governor’s alleged incompetence and personal failures, which he linked to broader systemic corruption affecting the city’s residents.
The conversation then shifted to crime in Chicago, with Trump reflecting on the despair of mothers of crime victims featured earlier on the show.
“I watched the mothers on your show this morning before we went on, so sad. They’ve given up on life,” he observed.
Trump advocated for reinstating stringent law enforcement policies based on his experiences in the city, particularly during the construction of Trump Tower.
He emphasized the need for the police to exercise their full capabilities, including implementing “stop and frisk” practices to maintain order.
“You have a great police force in Chicago, just like you do in New York, just like you do in Los Angeles. They are not allowed to do their jobs. You have got to let the police do their jobs, number one. Number two, you have to do a policy of stop and frisk. When you see a guy coming down the street and you can – the police know every one of them. They know their middle name. They know where they live. They know every one of them, the local police and they are great. You got to let them do their job,” Trump concluded.
