After demonstrators threatened to burn Los Angeles to the ground, radical Senator Bernie Sanders attacked President Donald Trump for addressing the situation.
Specifically, the socialist senator slammed the president for deploying National Guard troops to quell violent riots while local Democrat leaders stood idle.
Sanders’ outrage comes as President Trump moves to protect law-abiding citizens threatened by chaos stemming from immigration protests.
The independent senator from Vermont appeared on CNN’s “State of the Union” to condemn the president’s decisive action to restore order.
Violent protests erupted in Los Angeles County following immigration enforcement operations.
Sanders characterized the deployment of National Guard troops as evidence of “authoritarianism,” despite ongoing violence against law enforcement officers.
President Trump’s memorandum ordered the deployment of at least 2,000 National Guard personnel after local Democrat leadership, including Governor Gavin Newsom and Mayor Karen Bass, failed to address the escalating violence.
This marks the first presidential deployment of the National Guard in Los Angeles since the 1992 riots.
Interim U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California Bill Essayli defended the president’s decision.
Essayli cited the serious threat to public safety posed by violent protesters who targeted police officers.
While Democrats complain about federal overreach, they remain silent on the destruction and lawlessness plaguing American cities when it suits their political agenda.
“We have a president who is moving this country rapidly into authoritarianism,” Sanders claimed.
“My understanding is that the governor of California, the mayor of the city of Los Angeles did not request the national guard but he thinks he has a right to do anything he wants,” he added.
Sanders went on, “He is suing the media who criticizes him. He is going after law firms who have clients who were against him. He’s going after universities that teach courses that he doesn’t like. He’s threatening to impeach judges who rule against him.”
“And he’s usurping the powers of the United States Congress. This guy wants all of the power. He does not believe in the Constitution. He does not believe in the rule of law,” the senator concluded.
What Sanders omits is that the Constitution grants the president authority to restore order when local officials fail to protect American citizens.
President Trump’s decision came only after days of escalating violence and property destruction that California’s Democrat leadership seemed unwilling or unable to address.
Governor Newsom called the deployment “purposefully inflammatory,” echoing the left’s pattern of prioritizing political messaging over public safety.
This comes as no surprise from a governor who has consistently placed California’s illegal immigrant population above the welfare and security of law-abiding citizens and taxpayers.
Sanders’ comments represent the latest attempt by Democrats to paint necessary law enforcement actions as tyrannical overreach.
This rhetoric dangerously undermines exercises of presidential authority to maintain domestic peace.
