In a step exposing a serious flaw that could present safety hazards for passengers, Ford has decided to recall nearly 200,000 Mustang Mach-E vehicles.

This recall affects models produced from 2021 to 2025 and highlights potential dangers in how new electric vehicle technologies are developed and implemented.

The recall involves 197,432 Mustang Mach-E SUVs due to faulty electronic door latches that can trap passengers in the back seat.

These latches may remain locked, especially when battery charge levels are low, failing to unlock when drivers or passengers exit the vehicle.

This represents a serious safety concern, as trapped passengers might face emergencies without an easy exit.

Some observers question how such a fault could slip by a giant like Ford, once revered for its American-made quality and craftsmanship.

The company has claimed awareness of the problem and began notifying owners by mail starting June 23.

Ford assures customers they will resolve the issue through a software update available by late September.

Meanwhile, dealers will address affected vehicles directly, and Ford aims to contact every owner by September 22.

Owners have the reassurance that a manual operation using the interior handle can unlock doors if power fails.

In a disturbingly lax approach, Ford has not issued a ‘do not drive’ warning, almost dismissing the magnitude of the flaw.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is overseeing the recall, ensuring that all safety protocols are followed.

Although letters to inform owners of the issue went out in June, it’s faced critique for its delayed timing, possibly leaving some owners uninformed for longer than necessary.

The recall, numbered 25S65, also deals with potential electrical malfunctions.

Customers are strongly encouraged to call Ford at 1-866-436-7332, the NHTSA hotline for further assistance, or visit nhtsa.gov for more details.

The oversight leading to this recall underscores a growing concern among Americans regarding the reliability of modern automotive technologies.
