Attempting to seize the moral high ground, former President Barack Obama has sounded the alarm about President Donald Trump.
Obama, who famously weaponized federal agencies against conservatives during his tenure, now claims America is headed toward “autocracy” under President Trump.
A recent speech reveals the left’s desperate attempt to paint the Trump administration’s America-first policies as dangerous.
While doing so, Obama conveniently ignores the Biden administration’s actual assaults on constitutional freedoms.
The former president emerged from his luxury beachfront mansion on June 17 to lecture Americans in Hartford, Connecticut, about alleged threats to democracy.
Obama’s comments about America being “dangerously close” to embracing autocracy have been criticized by many.
The former president’s administration used the IRS to target conservative groups and presided over unprecedented surveillance of American citizens.
Still, Obama compared current American political trends to Hungary under Viktor Orbán.
While preaching about democratic norms, Obama conveniently glossed over his own legacy of executive orders bypassing Congress, the weaponization of intelligence agencies against political opponents, and his administration’s harsh immigration policies.
Instead, he focused on criticizing President Trump’s concerns about election integrity and border security.
Obama stated:
“If you follow regularly what is said by those who are in charge of the federal government right now, there is a weak commitment to what we understood – and not just my generation, at least since World War II – our understanding of how a liberal democracy is supposed to work.
“There has to be a response and pushback from civil society, from various institutions and individuals outside of government, but there also have to be people in government in both parties who say, ‘No, you can’t do that. What we’re seeing right now… is not consistent with American democracy. It is consistent with autocracies.”
Obama also referenced the “false claims” about the 2020 election, which demonstrate his complete dismissal of legitimate concerns from millions of Americans.
The media reported Obama’s calls for “bipartisan efforts” and “common ground,” ignoring the Obama-Biden legacy of partisan division and cultural warfare.
The most revealing aspect of Obama’s speech was his refusal to acknowledge his own administration’s high deportation rates while criticizing President Trump’s border security measures.
For millions of Americans, Obama’s warnings read like a projection from the establishment that has actually undermined norms through politically motivated plots.
