House Speaker in Trouble

Mike Johnson

(5MinNewsBreak.com) – House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) is currently grappling with increased threats of a motion to vacate his position as he finds himself in a situation where he doesn’t have sufficient support from his party to consolidate different foreign aid bills for Israel, Taiwan, and Ukraine into a single bill.

This situation necessitates that he seeks assistance from Democratic members, Breitbart News points out in a report.

Representatives Andy Biggs from Arizona and Marjorie Taylor Greene from Georgia, both Republicans, made it known on Tuesday morning that they oppose the proposal.

Biggs expressed his support for Johnson’s original strategy, which was to allow the House to cast votes on the various aid packages individually.

However, he criticized the subsequent decision to amalgamate these packages before forwarding them to the Senate as misguided.

“Israel funding should not be held hostage by Ukraine funding. The American people deserve to know where their senators stand on each funding component,” Biggs said.

He ridiculed the method used to combine the bills – the multiple-impact reentry vehicles rule (MIRV) – likening it to ranked choice voting, a system he views unfavorably because he believes it favors the least popular options.

Chad Pergram, a Senior Congressional Correspondent for Fox News, elaborated that the method in question would involve voting on four separate foreign aid bills. These would then be merged for efficiency before being sent to the Senate.

The aid encompasses support for Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan, along with additional measures to assist Ukraine through the repossession of Russian assets and a lease program.

Greene also expressed her dissent, particularly against the amalgamation of legislation under this method.

“NO, I am NOT voting for the rule on Johnson’s bundle of funding bills for billions more to Ukraine and other foreign wars,” she wrote on X.

She indicated her conditional support would only come forth when specific political conditions are met, such as the signing of HR2 into law by President Joe Biden and the initiation of the Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas impeachment trial in the Senate by Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.

“Speaker Johnson is not holding Democrats accountable nor leading our Republican majority, he’s actually giving in to Democrats every demand. And he’s using dirty swamp tactics to push through the America Last agenda,” MTG argued.
