(5MinNewsBreak.com) – Former President Donald Trump announced his choice in the race for the Republican nomination to succeed Senator Mitt Romney, an anti-Trump Republican and former failed presidential candidate, who disclosed in September that he would not seek reelection in 2024.

In a Truth Social post, Trump announced his “complete and total” endorsement of Trent Staggs, the Mayor of Riverton, Utah.
This decision positions Staggs against his chief Republican rival, Utah Representative John Curtis.
“Trent Staggs is 100% MAGA, and is running to fill The Mitt Romney, a Total Loser, Seat as the next Senator from the Great State of Utah!” the former president proclaimed on Saturday.
“A Highly Successful Entrepreneur, who has served brilliantly as Mayor of Riverton for the past six years, Trent knows how to Create Jobs, Stop Inflation, Grow the Economy, and Secure the Border,” he added.
“As your next Senator, Trent will help us Unleash American Energy, Support our Military/Vets, and Protect our always under siege Second Amendment. Trent Staggs has my Complete and Total Endorsement – He will be a GREAT Senator, and never let you down!” Trump elaborated.
In contrast to Curtis, Staggs has publicly supported Trump’s candidacy for the 2024 presidential election, The Daily Caller notes in a report.
Staggs has referred to the former president the “one candidate” capable of rectifying the “crippling” domestic and international policies established by President Joe Biden.
Moreover, Staggs enjoys backing not just from Trump but also from prominent Republicans such as former presidential contender Vivek Ramaswamy, Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville, Florida Representative Matt Gaetz, and numerous other current and former elected officials.
Staggs has articulated his intention to concentrate on domestic issues—like the crisis at the southern border—before tackling global concerns, such as supporting Ukraine against Russia.
“I think it’s time we prioritize our own border over Ukraine’s. At $34 trillion in debt, we cannot continue being the world’s piggy bank,” Staggs said.
While recent polls are limited, a survey by Noble Predictive Insights between April 8 and 16 indicated Curtis leading Staggs by a margin of 27% to 5%.
Other Republican contenders for Romney’s seat include Brent Hatch at 11%, Brad Wilson at 10%, and Jason Walton at 2%, with about 40% of respondents undecided.
The upcoming Utah GOP convention is scheduled for Saturday, where delegates will select their preferred candidate for the primary ballot in June.
